Review: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up By Marie Kondo

FullSizeRender“When one or the other of these thought patterns makes it hard to throw things away we can’t see what we really need now- at this moment. We aren’t sure what would satisfy us or what we are looking for – as a result we increase the number of unnecessary possessions. Burying ourself both physically and mentally in superfluous things. The best way to find out what we really need is to get rid of what we don’t. All you have to do is eliminate what you don’t need by confronting each of your possessions properly.” -Marie Kondo

There definitely is some magic to it. Cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things are kind of on repeat over here- I always seem to have a bag for donations. Kondo, by way of her book brought the “final” clarify I needed, by her very simple, yet very effective question: does it spark joy?

Though it is really that simple, there is a recommended method and process to it- so don’t skip out on the book. In some of the reviews, Kondo, gets some flack for talking about the “feelings” of socks. But you get it- especially if you believe everything is energy.

By going thru Kondo’s process, I think success is more of an outcome vs not.  And not because I am the type of person who has nothing… I do like things and have many interests (especially creative interests), which require tools, etc. Even with this, I am now more aware of what’s around me- I don’t want a ton of things, and it’s mostly the things I love/spark joy vs not.

How cool is it to know you are surrounded by things that only spark joy?? Pretty amazing! Highly recommend The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying up by Marie Kondo. 🙂
